5 Things I Do That Help Me Feel Like Myself Again ⏤ Postpartum Diaries

This post is in collaboration with Tiger Gems, but as always, all thoughts are my own.

My postpartum recovery definitely took a toll on my body. I still don’t feel my 100% because one, my wound still hasn’t healed, and two, my baby weight is still on me. I know a lot of moms say to give the body time to heal, adjust, and be what it’s supposed to be for the baby, I can’t help but feel awful whenever I feel the pangs of pain down there and when I see myself in the mirror and in pictures. Like, girl, you really that big?! But I know all of this is temporary… that I will heal eventually, and that my body will shed its extra love handles.

Today, I will be sharing with you the things that I do to cope while I’m still on this road to complete recovery.

  1. Showers

I know this is pretty much a given, but if you’re a mom, you almost always don’t have time for showers. And for someone who doesn’t have a baby monitor, I can’t just leave my baby unattended you know? So when I do get the chance to shower, I really take my time and give my body the care it deserves. Since my wound still isn’t healed, I take this time to do a “sitz bath” in the shower using our shower head. It seriously is the best thing and I pray to God it’s helping me heal down there.

  2. Getting Dolled Up

This is a no-brainer. I love makeup and dressing up, heck, that’s what I kind of do for a living, so whenever I do get my glam on, I always feel so much better about myself that I forget about the pain and the extra pounds. Having even just a smidge of makeup on makes a huge of a difference in my day. I feel beautiful, confident, and sometimes, that’s just all a mom needs to get through a baby-filled day.

  3. WEARING My Tiger gems Rings

I gained roughly 50 lbs. during pregnancy, so naturally, my fingers got swollen and I had to take my rings off. It’s such a small thing, but to me, those rings are a physical reminder of the promise I made to my husband that having them off felt weird, like I was incomplete. Fast forward to me giving birth and losing some weight, I was surprised that my rings STILL didn’t fit! So when Tabitha of Tiger Gems reached out to me for another collaboration, I was over the moon! YES! I get to feel like a married woman again! Haha.

Now that I have a baby, I opted for a regular solitaire with a 1 ct. diamond. It’s much smaller than the previous one I had, and a lot more convenient since big rocks tend to scratch baby. She also sent over another pair of the half eternity band, and the half art-deco band to match the engagement ring. I love that I have a set of rings that hug my postpartum fingers perfectly, and whenever I do get pregnant again in the future, I won’t have to be ringless again.

Tiger Gems only uses conflict-free diamonds and all their jewelry are handmade with love! I highly recommend that you check them out! The rings that I received over a year ago are still in perfect condition, so I know that these pieces will be able to stand the test of time.

4. Watching TV Shows

I love watching TV shows and movies. It’s my favorite thing to do to unwind when I feel stressed. To me, it’s the best way to keep my mind off things, and I do find inspiration in the shows that I watch. I feel like my old self again whenever I watch an episode or two of a really good show. I just finished watching Ozarks on Netflix and I honestly cannot wait for season 3! Every episode has been very unpredictable. What shows do you recommend right now?

5. Working

Finally, working. Blogging. Photographing. Posting. Instagram. Twitter. Writing. All that jazz. Every little thing that is related to my work is something I enjoy doing because it’s something I do for myself, to better myself, my craft, my brand, my passion. It might be weird for some moms, but since I work at home, work feels a lot better. :)

I also created a video on IGTV about this so if you want to watch it, click here and be sure to follow because I will be putting out more videos on there!
