How to Style Fall's Must-Have Trends

The official start of the fall season is just around the corner, which means cooler temps and shorter days will be here before we know it – and I, could not be not be more thrilled for my favorite season!

If the crisp weather and vibrant colors of autumn aren’t enough to get you excited for the change in seasons, I know one thing that’s sure to do the trick: new fashion trends that you simply won’t be able to say no to. From modern updates on classic silhouettes to chic and cozy pieces that are sure to become staples in your fall lineup, there’s something for everyone. Get a jump on your fall wardrobe with these quick and easy tips for styling all of the season’s must-have trends.

The Shearling Bomber Jacket

When the temperature begins to dip, a good jacket is a necessity. And, if you have to bundle up, why not do it in style? With a classic silhouette and cozy lining, the shearling bomber is the jacket of choice for the fall season. Opt for a cropped cut and pair with a mini skirt and tights for a decidedly preppy, feminine finish or choose an oversized number for a more retro vibe. Proceed to wear with everything from denim flares to midi dresses.

The Turtleneck

Simple and versatile, the turtleneck is a must-have for the fall season. Not only can this style be worn solo with jeans and boots for a low-key ensemble, it is also the perfect piece for layering. Throw a turtleneck on underneath your favorite warm-weather dress (like that slinky slip dress you’ve been wearing practically every day this summer) to make it fall-ready. To find just the right turtleneck—whether thin and sleek, a chunky knit, or somewhere in between—
browse Lyst’s collection. Choose a style in a neutral hue for a reliable standby or add a twist with a pop of unexpected color.

The Block Heel Boot

Another staple of the fall season is the boot, in all its various and many iterations. This time around, the block heel boot offers a twist on a classic silhouette – and will make you wonder why you ever preferred a stiletto heel. It also makes walking so much easier!

For a breakdown of the trend, read The Zoe Report's take on the practical yet statement-making runway look, rendered in rich textures and every cut imaginable, from ankle to mid-calf to knee-high. Pair your fave with a floral midi dress for a boho chic vibe or a slip dress and tights for a 90s-inspired ensemble.

The Off-the-Shoulder Neckline

If you can’t get enough of the super of-the-moment cold-shoulder top, you’re not alone—the popular neckline isn’t losing any of the steam it had this past spring and summer, meaning you can keep on rocking it this fall season. To make off-the-shoulder styles more appropriate in cooler weather, try a design that features longer sleeves and richer hues. Then, pair with more luxurious fabrics, like suede or leather, to bridge the gap between summer and fall.

The Fur Coat

Fur for fall is nothing new, but this season, the normally neutral outerwear staple is getting a colorful makeover. Check out what WWD has to say about the decidedly modern (and super swoon-worthy) pelts, which are available in a rainbow array of hues, from pastel pink to cobalt blue. To ensure your vibrant coat is the star of the show, keep the rest of your outfit simple and subtle (mix shades of camel for a palette that is right on trend).

Those were just a few of so many ways on how you can style what's on trend this fall season!
