Our Love Story: How it all began

Reblogged from Jorge <3 :

I opened my Instagram account back in 2010 but it wasn’t until 2012 that I really started using it. It was then that I began posting photos of anything I found interesting and most of the time it was photos of the sky. This then led me to start going on the hashtag #sky and liking any photos that I thought looked good. I have to admit, I was a little addicted to liking photos on Instagram often liking for hours at a time but somehow one photo stood out to me more than any other.

One night, on August 31st, 2012, I was on the #sky hashtag looking through photos and I came across one of Corinth’s photos, a photo of the sky. It’s not that is what the best photo I had ever seen in my life but just something about it really caught my eye. Not only did the photo grab my attention but Corinth’s profile picture and unique name demanded for me to go check her Instagram page out!

Looking through Corinth’s photos I really loved what I saw. A genuine and humble Filipina who loved to read and who I found to be a beautiful person. The Kik Messaging app was very popular then so it was common for people to have their chat names on their Instagram profile bio. Corinth happened to have hers there so after looking through all her photos, liking and commenting on some, I decided to chat her up on Kik. I was 19 years old at the time and Corinth, 22, so before even messaging her my intentions were nothing but to engage in stimulating conversation because in my mind I knew if anything, I’d be making nothing more than a virtual friend knowing she was all the way in the Yukon… I guess I was wrong!

Corinth: And I thought, wow what a cute stalker. So yeah of course, I’d respond to his Kik message.

To be honest, I was a little surprised she responded to my first message on Kik messenger. That first night we ended up talking for hours and I really enjoyed it so much. For once in my life I was engaging in intellectual conversation with the opposite gender and perhaps that’s what kept me wanting to talk to Corinth everyday. Even after telling her my age, Corinth still kept wanting to talk to me and it was surprising yet flattering that I was getting attention from an older beautiful girl. This showed me the type of person she is, an independent thinker who always thinks outside of the box in whatever she does. I often thank Corinth for giving me a chance because it is what ultimately led to the beginning of us as a couple.

Corinth: I didn’t really think we would end up together because he was two and a half years younger than me and really didn’t consider him to be THE boyfriend so we just went on talking as friends. And eventually, I realized that I met my best friend in him.

From that first time we started talking, we enjoyed chatting and learning more and more about each other. We talked about our interests, beliefs, our lives and it was awesome to see how much we had in common. The most important thing we had in common was our faith in Jesus Christ. At first we both had no idea that we were actually talking to a fellow believer in Christ so it was so awesome to find out that we both shared the same faith, it was truly God at work. We literally talked every single day and it became a part of our daily lives to say good morning and good night to each other without fail. This went on for months and finally before we knew it, feelings for each other began to grow and we were falling in love.

For me, before Corinth, I had never experienced falling or being in love with another person. I understood what loving someone demanded of me but I didn’t know the feeling and what to expect for when I would truly fall in love. Falling in love is an indescribable feeling that I wish everyone can experience. It is so overwhelming and it is literally being consumed by love. Corinth and I were falling in love and it was the most amazing thing that had ever happened to me in my life. Through my love for Corinth I began to really comprehend God’s love for us and with that I would be able to always love Corinth with all my heart as Christ loves us.

Corinth was actually the first to say that she loved me and I didn’t hesitate to say it back. I really loved her and it was crazy because we had never met in person but I felt like I knew her so well, she was my best friend. Finally on March 3rd, 2013 we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. We both believed that we were brought together by God but we still prayed about our future together and asked God to reveal to us if this relationship was His will. God only confirmed it to us that this love and relationship was truly from Him and because of that we strive to glorify Him daily in our relationship no matter how hard it may be.

I never wanted or asked to be in a long distance relationship and I never ever thought I would end up in one, it’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. Long distance relationships require genuine love and patience and without God in it I believe it is extremely difficult for it to work out. We’re truly thankful to God for bringing us together using an iPhone app and we have faith in Him that all things will work out for Corinth and I to finally be together for good.

Instagram has been our social network outlet for our relationship. Before becoming a couple, Corinth had posted a photo of a friendship bracelet she had made for me. Other than that, we didn’t start posting photos about each other until after March 3rd, 2013. Then it’s when we started our own couple hashtag #chasingmiamor translated, chasing my love. We use this hashtag for any photos about our relationship, it is our Instagram love story!

Corinth: I thought it was nice to have our own hashtag so we can document our stories easily. And through it, people can just follow up on our love story.

On September 4, 2013, I made my way to Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada to meet Corinth for the first time in person.

Corinth: Best day ever! I was so nervous and he noticed it. But my gosh, that moment when we first hugged was one of the most memorable moments in my life.

It was the best day of my life yet filled with so many emotions and I was so grateful to God for making it all happen and glad to have been able to share our special moment with everyone on Instagram. I feel so blessed to have been able to go see her again over the past holidays and we got to spend our first Christmas, New years and monthsary date together! During these trips we’ve done so much exploring and have taken tons of pictures. You’ll find that our Instagram profiles are filled with pictures of each other and #latergrams of us reminiscing about the time we’ve spent together in person which in total is only 25 days. To follow our love story, check out our #chasingmiamor tag and follow us on Instagram!

Corinth: We don’t always see each other because we are 3,590 miles from each other so during those days we were actually together, we made lots of memories by capturing them through photos and videos. Jorge actually made a short video from his first trip to see me and a slow-motion video of me from his second trip! And we’ll always be sharing our stories on Instagram, the app that brought us together.
