7 Ways To Stay Warm During The Cold Winter Months

It's starting to feel more and more like winter, and to me, that means Christmas is just around the corner! I'm very excited for the holidays, but what I'm not looking forward to is the cold! Being born and raised from a tropical country, living in the east coast during the winter months can be extremely tough. But after living in Whitehorse, Canada for almost 4 years, I've discovered a few ways on how to keep myself warm during the freezing months, and today, I partnered up with Genuine Thermosยฎ Brand to share them with you. #ThermosTraditions

1. LAYER UP! I don't know how many times I will have to say this but this is one of my favorite ways to keep myself warm. But, it is also very important to know the types of fabric to wear when layering. Just because you're wearing a lot of clothes doesn't mean it's going to provide the warmth your body needs. Layering the wrong materials can make you look bulky, and make you feel heavy and uncomfortable, which leads me to point number 2.

2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIALS/FABRICS TO WEAR! Wearing the right type of fabric for the colder months is key, and layering them will really ensure warmth. We have to make sure that the pieces we pick out have good insulation. Here are a few types of fabrics/materials you should be looking for in clothes: wool, fleece, velvet, leather, cashmere, flannel, cotton (depending on where you live, but if you live in a wet area, do not wear cotton because cotton absorbs moisture), polyester, down. (PS: Some of these materials may be bad depending on where you're wearing them to: ex. skiing, campfire, damp areas, hiking, etc. Do your research.)

3. INVEST IN A GOOD WINTER COAT! It's survival mode in the winter, and it's imperative that you own at least one good winter coat. I have one that can handle -40ยบC, so if you live where winters can be brutal, go get one now!

4. STOCK UP ON SCARVES, BEANIES, AND GLOVES! Keeping our head, neck, ears, and hands warm really help in keeping the rest of our body warm. Having different ones is good so you can change up your outfits once in a while! My obsession right now are "blanket scarves".

5. WEAR CUTE & FUZZY SOCKS! Same goes for our feet! Double up on socks if you have to! You don't want your toes to freeze! If they do end up frozen, one good tip I've learned in Canada was to take your shoes off once you're indoor. This will bring back the natural warmth of your body to your toes while your shoes defrost.

6. GET YOURSELF A FEW FLEECE-LINED LEGGINGS! Or anything fleece-lined, really! If you love incorporating leggings in your outfits like me, wearing fleece-lined ones provide the warmth you need without compromising your fashion. How many times can I say "fleece-lined"? Haha.

7. KEEP YOUR FAVORITE HOT DRINK HOT WITH THERMOSยฎ BRAND TUMBLERS! One great way to keep yourself warm this winter is having a warm drink ready at all times, and what better brand is there to trust than Thermosยฎ?

Thermosยฎ sent me their Red Heritage Compact Bottle in 16 oz. which is made with their vacuum insulated technology for maximum temperature retention for both hot and cold drinks: up to 12 hours for hot drinks, and 24 hours for cold drinks. I use it for coffee of course, and I love how I can carry it in my purse so I can have a hot cup any time I want, anywhere I go! It's very convenient for "coffeeholics" like myself!

Since we ran out of creamer, I've been drinking my coffee black, and I'm actually very surprised with myself because I am loving it! For my french-pressed coffee, all I do is pour boiling water in my coffee maker, and let the coffee brew for 4 minutes (make sure you use coarse coffee grounds). While I wait, I pour the leftover hot water from the kettle into my Thermosยฎ bottle. Doing this step will help prolong the temperature of my coffee. Once my coffee is ready, I just sweeten it up with some honey and I'm good to go!
