How To Prep Skin Before Makeup

Have you heard of the saying, "skin first, makeup second"?

I don’t exactly remember where I heard or read that, but it’s so true! No makeup can cover up bad foundation, aka, our skin, so it’s really more important to get the skincare part down first before stressing over makeup.

As a self-proclaimed beauty expert, haha, I do notice a difference in the way makeup sits on my skin whenever I prep my skin properly. Because I want you to have a better makeup experience, let me share with you my tips on how to prep your skin for makeup application! I swear, this is just as fun as applying makeup and you’ll love the results! And of course, all skincare products mentioned in this post are non-toxic!

1. CLEANSE.

Gotta make sure our canvas is clean. Cleansing your face will get rid of any leftover dirt, makeup, and oil on your face. I love to use Versed’s Wash It Out Gel Cleanser.

2. APPLY SERUM.

Serums usually add a little bit of dewiness or hydration to the skin, and I do find that makeup, especially powder products sit better on my skin. I love using Naturally Serious’ Illumi-Nation Power Serum for this step.

3. USE EYE GEL.

Hydration under the eyes is so often looked over! Ladies and gents, this step is just as important as applying moisturizer. I recommend using eye gels instead of eye creams because they are more lightweight than creams. So much better to use underneath makeup. If you want your under eyes to look smoother, this is how you do it! I love to use Versed’s Vacation Eyes Brightening Eye Gel.

4. MOISTURIZE.

Moisture is key to prevent dryness and oiliness (yes, for real!). The more hydrated and moisturized your skin is, the less likely it is to create oil to compensate for the lack of hydration. I know, it’s a very interesting concept, but I swear, even if you have oily skin, MOISTURIZE! Try using Versed’s Dew Point Gel Moisturizer for a lightweight feel. Save the heavier creams for your night time skincare routine.

5. SUNSCREEN.

USE SUNSCREEN DAILY, PERIODT! Your skin is going to thank you later. My current fave is Coola's Mineral Sun Silk Crème SPF 30. Not only does it protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, it also provides digital and pollution protection. It dries pretty tacky and matte but doesn’t feel dry on the skin. It’s a great makeup primer!

6. MOISTURIZE LIPS.

Make sure your lipstick glides beautifully on your lips. Don’t forget to moisturize them. Follain’s Lip Balm is still my go-to and it’s only $9!

Now that you’ve prepped your skin to the gods, it’s time to have fun with makeup!

I hope that you found this post helpful, and please do share if you did! I’ll talk to you soon!

xx,

Corinth
