5 Tips on How To Mix and Match Your Wardrobe - Lulus Haul

Disclaimer: This haul was gifted to me by Lulus but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A month ago, before this pandemic hit us, I received a huge box full of Lulus goodies and today I’m going to share with you some tips on how you can mix and match your wardrobe!

When I shop for clothes, I make sure to pick pieces I can mix and match so I can get a lot of use out of them. In this post, I will show you how I was able to pair my Lulus haul with each other that pretty much created a bunch of different outfits.

Shop for plain pieces

When it comes to buying clothes that you intend to use several times, try to choose pieces that are plain and basic. Think solid and basic neutral colors, and steer clear from patterned pieces. Patterns stand out and people tend to remember certain looks with patterned stuff making mix-and-matching so much harder.

You can see below that the pieces I picked out from my recent Lulus haul have no patterns or prints at all. This allows me to create several looks by mixing them up!

Play around with different textures

Just because you’re shopping for plain pieces doesn’t mean you need to buy boring clothes. Think textures! Cotton, linen, satin, silk, leather, denim, etc. Wearing pieces that involve different textures help elevate your outfit even if you’re wearing basic colors. Monochromatic outfits definitely exercises this trick a lot! Chriselle Lim demonstrated this very well.

Don’t wear clashing colors

Sticking to basic neutral colors makes creating outfits a breeze. Think of colors that will go well with anything! White, black, brown, beiges are great colors to start with! Then if you want to expand your color palette, refer to the color wheel and try to match complimentary colors. But don’t get me wrong, you can still wear loud and bright colors, but mix and matching it with your other clothes will be quite challenging.

You can see below that I pretty much picked out “safe” colors, even for my shoes and accessories!

Play around with different silhouettes

How do you want your clothes to fit you? Do you want a tight top? A lose top? Cropped? Mom jeans or skinny jeans? A flowy or bodycon dress? All of these factors come in when it’s time to create outfits. The best part is that you can definitely play around to figure out what works best for your body. Combining a couple of styles is definitely my favorite way to create outfits!

Change up your shoes and accessories

Sometimes, you don’t even have to change your whole outfit to create a new look. Just switch out your shoes and accessories! Some of the keywords to think about: sporty, girly, corporate. Your shoes can make or break your outfit so you have to ask yourself what vibe are your shoes giving off?

See an example below!

So how did I mix and match my Lulus haul? Here you go!

That’s it for today! I hope that you found this post helpful, thank you so much for reading!
